Nicholas’s practice focuses on the intersection of talent strategies and the business of law. His expertise spans a range of topics, including hiring and integration, leadership, people management, engagement and retention and business development. In his consulting work with law firms, Nicholas advises his clients on strategy and key processes and programs, such as how to optimize lateral partner recruitment and how to redefine performance management. He also provides leadership coaching to attorneys and law firm executives.
Nicholas has held several leadership positions in top tier global law firms. He began his career as a corporate associate, first at DLA Piper, and then at Freshfields. He later became a Partner and Head of Knowledge Management at Pinsents in London, where he designed and implemented high-impact training initiatives and developed expertise in risk management. Nicholas also served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at Dewey & LeBoeuf, where he built and led award-winning teams in an integrated talent management department designed around the life cycle of an attorney at the firm.
Originally from the United Kingdom, Nicholas has lived and worked in Germany and Hong Kong, as well as in London. He brings deep experience in international legal services, law firm management, strategic growth and professional development to his engagements, leveraging his background and fluency in trans-Atlantic legal operations to deliver powerful solutions to clients operating in an increasingly diverse and globalized business.
Nicholas is a graduate of the University of Surrey, having received a BSc (Hons) in Linguistic and International Studies and the College of Law, both in Guildford, England where he completed his legal education. He is admitted as an attorney (solicitor) in both England and Hong Kong. In addition, Nicholas is certified as a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR) and as a Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP). Nicholas is a Results Trained Coach (having obtained the NeuroLeadership Institute’s Brain Based Coaching Certificate). He is also certified by the Behavioral Coaching Institute (BCI) as a master coach and is a member of the ICF (International Coaching Federation).
